UNESCO established 18 April as the International Day for Monuments and Sites in 1983. It aims to raise public awareness about the diversity and vulnerability of the world’s built monuments and heritage sites and the efforts required to protect and conserve them. Each year has a different theme.

On one hand the most moving memorial I've ever seen is the United States holocaust memorial. It's very shocking but you can really think about that difficult period. and on the other hand the most impressive memorial I have ever visited was the memorial of the indochine war !

ReplyDeleteThe monument that touched us the most is the Colosseum of Rome. This monument is very impressive and was built in 72 AD by Vespasian in order to entertain the reman people : "panem et circenses-bread and games". Gladiators fights, hunts, ship fights, and christian persecution took place in this building.
ReplyDeleteI choose the Caen Memorial, it is very impressive by it size. This memorial is composed by a museum, which deals with the story of the two wars, and by a big beautiful garden in which there are many places of commemoration for each countrys which took part in te two wars. This memorial is a real message of peace.
